Basketball season is right around the corner and UK fans go crazy for the cats! Every October, the UK Men’s & Women’s basketball team is introduced at Rupp Arena and the televised event is called Big Blue Madness. While I have attended the event as a fan, this year I had the amazing opportunity to work at it!
At BBM, I assisted Kentucky Sports Video which produces videos for all of the sports teams on campus. They do phenomenal work and it was so cool to be around so many creative students! At the event, I helped carry equipment and spot locations to shoot at.
We got to the arena hours before the event started so we had time to get our credentials, set up and scope the place out before the madness began. During this time, I got a pic on the court which was super cool!
Our first spot to shoot at was the Big Blue Carpet where the players, coaches, and other VIP’s get introduced. Once that was over, we headed back to the arena to film the event.
We were everywhere from the very top rows of the area to the sidelines next to Coach Cal. We were (literally) running around Rupp the entire night and it was so much fun!
Once we were done, we packed up and headed back to campus where everyone uploaded their footage so they can go through and edit it. They go so many amazing shots and I cannot wait to see the final products!
It was so fun to get an “insiders” point of view during Big Blue Madness! I dreamed of working at the UK basketball games growing up and I cannot believe I got the opportunity to finally do it. Don’t give up on your dreams y’all!
